Here are Christ's 7 final phrases that he utters while upon the cross:
Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.
"Love your enemies, … do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which … persecute you" (Matt. 5:44). Christ not only taught, but also exemplified forgiveness throughout his entire life.
Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
Christ cares for and gives hope to everyone, criminals and sinners included.
Behold thy son! ... Behold thy mother!
Jesus entrusts his mother into the care of John, the one "whom he loved".
My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
Christ descended below all things, even those times when we feel alone.
I thirst.
More evidence of Christ descending below all things, including physical needs and agony of pain.
It is finished.
The atonement is complete.
Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit.
Even after feeling forsaken/deserted, Jesus trusts in, and submits to Heavenly Father.
